Bob Temper and 2004 Men Of The Year!
Every club is lucky if it has one member who can be relied on to always be available for whatever job needs to be done. Ozark Fly Fishers and the Southern Council is extremely lucky to have two. I would like to alter the normal nomination for "Man of the Year" and nominate "Men of the Year." These two individuals seem joined at the hip as you seldom see one without the other. Steve Antonic and Bob Temper have been actively engaged in assisting the Council for many years in numerous ways. They are always available to assist at conclave with much more than just running the casting pool and the casting games which they have done for several years. Some years back they served as Auction and Raffle Chairs and I believe they were the first to get everything computerized. Both have been very active with their home club, Ozark Fly Fishers and have held most of the offices and have both been president (one thing they did separately). They have involved the club in many educational projects including their "Fly Fishing A to Z" program to introduce new people to the joys of our sport. Both are also heavily involved in conservation activities including regular meetings concerning the problem with gravel mining in Missouri's fragile trout streams. This involves frequent trips from St. Louis to Jefferson City. Whatever project needs to be done, Bob and Steve can be relied on to be "front and center" to assist and, I would personally add, seldom with the recognition they deserve. I cannot see nominating only one of these individuals so if it can be done, I believe these dedicated gentlemen deserved to be named "Southern Council Men of the Year." |
